About a 10X increase
"You could say that admission price is a bargain these days, as it should be
$25 to follow the trends."
Shouldn't it be about $2.50 with that reference point?

Ah nostalgia. It ain't what it used to be.
Average income in 1955: $4800. Average income last year $46000.
Average cost of movie ticket in 1955: $.25 2010: $14
Cost of popcorn in 1955: $.10 in 2010: $8-10
Kind of looks like it tracks pretty well. You could say that admission
price is a bargain these days, as it should be $25 to follow the trends.

When I was going to movies as a kid under 12 (I turned that in 1955),
I went to the two first-run theatres in town and paid 25 cents for

had our Saturday kiddie matinee it was 10 cents for the movie, 10
cents for the popcorn and 5 cents for a coke. With the same 5 cents
for bus fare each way, I could spend Saturday at the movies for a
total of 35 cents!!! And believe me, those Roy Rogers and Jungle Jim
movies were worth it!!!!! Along with the cartoon, the obligatory
serial (everything from Rocket Man to Clyde Beatty), the occasional
short, previews (loved 'em!) and even the newsreel.
Were those better days at the movies???? Well, I think so. No stereo,
special effects and still boisterous kids----- but NO flashing lights
and silly ring-tones from the then unheard-of cell phones.
But when CinemaScope came along, I became a grown-up moviegoer.
Those were indeed the days!

PS- The fresh-popped popcorn was sooooooo much better!! Just the
smell could draw you in from a block away.
