Well of course one can only hope that the consignor has taken into
consideration how not having your bids will affect the final hammer price.
I wonder if Grey and his staff could still show interested bidders before
photos? Has anyone even bothered to ask?
(or maybe only purchasers who are willing and able to bid have asked)

Sean-No, I didn't bid because I saw how hammered the piece was prior to
restoration. But I was appreciative of the auction house for supplying the
"before" photo. And you are right, it is up to the consignor (or owner, in
this case) to supply or not supply the "before" images. The owner chose
not to. And I choose not to bid. I'm sure Grey & his accomodating staff
would be delighted to show me whatever posters I desire to examine in
person, but they cannot show me the unrestored pieces now, and I haven'
seen most of the unrestored images...

Just curious Glenn,
Were you a bidder on the Mummy one-sheet because they included a "before"
picture?
Pretty sure it is probably up to the consignor of the posters if they
would
like to include "before" photos or not.
Even still, no photo could replace seeing the posters in person and I am
sure Grey and his staff make every effort to accommodate real bidders who
might be interested in any of the pieces.

Must say I am very impressed by the Heritage catalog/PA poster find. I
will say I would never bid on a high ticket poster that was
discovered/purchased by an auction house in need of restoration,
restored,
but no "before" photos were put in the auction catalogs. When an
original
"Mummy" one-sheet was auctioned by a major auction house a few years
ago,
they cheerfully offered a picture of the "before" (the unrestored
poster)
in their catalog. I will stay away...
