I'm not sure I follow. If you bid the maximum amount you are willing to pay for an item, you will either lose that item to someone who is willing to pay more for it, or you won't.
The time the bid is placed is irrelevant to the amount. If the sniper bids less than you - you win. If the sniper bids more than you - you lose. It does not matter whether that bidder bid at the computer with two seconds to go, bids on a snipe with two seconds to go or bids on day one. Some people prefer not to make a bid until the end of an auction, be it by snipe or manually. Those people are dealing with less perfect information than someone who bids earlier because it leaves them no response time if they are outbid. It's a trade-off some people are willing to make. If Rich is wanting a much-sought-after Chandler item, there is no rule saying he has to sit by his computer all night watching it. He can enter his bid for it anytime he wants, either manually or by snipe. The only thing that matters is how much he is willing to pay for the item. -----Original Message----- From: Annie Wallace [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, October 22, 2012 09:34 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [MOPO] Sniping Sniping is also about savingour customers time. Not everyone has the time (or desire) to sit in frontof a computer all night and fight back and forth in $2 or $5 increments. Sniping allows you to set a bid and have it executed at the end of the auctionwithout having to tie your night to the computer. ....despite the fact that'sEXACTLY what you should be doing. Sniping is irritating... but auto-sniping isdirty pool. End of story. It essentially denies those people who ARE sitting infront of their PCs trying to get a much-sought-after item. I've stayed quietmostly here, but I regard all snipers as little more than pond life.
