Hi Adrian
That is true but quite a few auction houses actually recommend to clients that
they should get their posters or lobby cards paper backed or linen backed
before placing them in auction. The theory is that it might be worth getting
the item backed to achieve a better price. The auction house often handles the
backing for the client. Nothing at all wrong with that and it sometimes gets
the desired result.
Regards
John

As an auction consultant here in the UK - I would perhaps pre-empt Bruce and
Grey by saying any item that comes in for auction whatever the condition at a
certain level that item will sell - paper backed or not.

Bruce and Grey will point out the paper backing and allow the purchaser to
discern if they want that item and at what cost.

That is the nature of auctions.
