Todd,

I don't think so. Unless you were able to collect 'top shelf' comics, movie posters have been the far better investment. Comic books have always been a mass market medium, being printed in the millions, so for investment purposes you would have needed to buy top-grade titles in top-grade condition. Even decades ago, those were not 'cheap'.

The comic book industry was fairly successful in creating a 'collector's market' in the 1980s, with many contemporary issues selling for high 'collector' prices. Unfortunately, thousands of collectors were 'investing' in them, thinking the value of their collection would 'grow naturally' over the years. Meanwhile, this generation is selling their collections, and the market is being flooded with supposedly 'rare' comics. As in any field, there are exceptions, but generally speaking, your return will be cents on the dollar (if you can sell them at all).

Movie posters on the other hand, have gone a long way since the 1980s, with even newer material regularly selling for prices nobody would have believed 30 years ago.

Just my two cents...

I sometimes think it would have been a much smarter move collecting and investing in comic books over the last 51+ years than movie posters.
Rare comics are much easier to find than rare movie posters and they're a lot easier to sell.https://listserv.american.edu/scripts/wa-american.exe?SUBED1=MoPo-L&A=1
