Sam, they do not intend to let the expensive ones through. Up to a value of 135 Pounds they only charge Import-VAT, and they want the sender to collect those and forward to them. Over 135 Pounds, they charge Import-VAT, plus Custom Duties. These depend on the nature of the goods, are calculated individually and billed to the recipient.
Be that as may, it will be absolutely impossible to enforce this stupid tax-collect rule. So far, all my low-value shipments to the UK have been delivered without problems.
