Here's some other explanations about where I'm
coming from, but again, if I'm not going along with
the current discussion between you, Matt and DMB, then
I can either start a new thread or move on to
something else in another thread.
I was reading this during my break today, in
which I'm still on, and this quote seems similar to
what I'm trying to point out here when it comes to
pure/direct experience.
"Buddhism, he wrote, is not an abstract doctrine,
but a way of life: for the warrior, the warrior's
way; for the peasant, the peasant's way; for the
artisan, the artisan's way; and for the merchant, the
merchant's way. A person may choose whatever sect and
manner of praying that suits him, provided he stays in
the way with all his heart."
(JAPANESE DEATH POEMS compiled by Yoel Hoffmann:
the above was Suzuki Shosan, A.D. 1655, first samurai
warrior and at age forty-two he became a Zen monk for
another thirty some odd years)
Each level is direct experience of that level.
The intellectual level is full-heartedly and directly
the only way to experience the intellect. The same
goes for the other levels. Each level is the pure and
only direct way to experience the intellect, social,
biological, etc... Dynamic experience is not strictly
any one level, but the experience of any one level
doesn't become less pure. They each have their own
way, as Shosan states above, "the warrior, the
warrior's way; the peasant, the peasant's way; etc..."
As to if one does not full-heartedly go the way
he/she is upon, well, that seems to be dynamic. It
would seem the levels are being combined, such as when
I intellectualize this and biologically type this
intellecutalization all at the same time, etc... Or,
I might be changing my way and my heart is going
another way.
Again, if this is not what your trying to get
out, then I'll bow out from this current discussion on
this thread.
Thanks for the time,
SA
