I like to relate Maya as being the opposite of "frank", which means
free as well as honest. Static patterns can be said to be an integral
part of Maya, since a prime feature of Maya is attachment. But there's
more to Maya.

I must apologize because I am not in a position right now to elaborate
on Maya, I have a huge exam coming up that is career-determining. You
might want to refer to the Srimad Bhagavatam or, for starters, the
Bhagavad Gita.
