I think that art extends all the way down to the notion of there being a code for it. Hence, where to employ code of art and where not to is itself a topic of art. What code of art is, well, from an MoQ perspective, it's simple enough to say that it is an intellectual static pattern. Perhaps, art can be said to be the "patternifying" (a process as opposed to a product) of dynamic creativity into (a sort of filtering or locking) a form that the intellect finds desirable.
If we make such a broad definition of art, then it's clear that art is the Will part of Schopenhauer's metaphysics. Again, he draws a similar metaphysics as Pirsig when he divides Quality into Will and Representation (DQ and SQ, although in a way making intellectual patterns supreme over the others, in a sense of primacy rather than controlling). >But also >while I am raking, sweeping and gathering leaves I am participating >in an art experience too. Some people would totally ignore those aspects (such as arranging all the dead leaves in patterns and then playing around with them), so would this ignorance be classified as art? Skepticism of philosophy (or avoidance thereof) is itself a matter of philosophy, therefore, to avoid art (as is perceived by common sense -- through examples such as gathering leaves) would itself be art. Art basically is the creation, sustenance, modification and destruction of patterns in a desirable way, be it social patterns (such as managing a committee) or inorganic (handling sewage waste). In this respect, art can be said to be an opening door towards DQ.
