On Saturday 24 November 9:38 AM MarshaV writes Greetings again, LILA mentions a code of art, but doesn't really explain it. I suppose it's staying dynamic, but that's just my guess. Maybe RMP writes of it in another paper? Creating a painting or a sculpture isn't acting out of a code art, I wouldn't think. What code? Could it be a way of making change, without the motive to make change? Is it a way of paying attention to the moment in a dynamic way? Maybe it's too much like quality itself, to define it. Anyone have any thoughts? Marsha
Hi MarshaV and all, My perception of a code of art¹ has been the realization of luminous intelligence¹. Pirsig describes evolution in four levels. In some way there is a marker which evokes the level to which a word is attached. A code of art¹ identifies movement in such a way that my attention is attracted to the rightness of whole movement. It is not just the celebrity¹ of the social order, but also real glimpses of the other orders. I sang loud and flat for many years. A conductor of a symphonic chorus, which I had joined, told me I had a good voice, but it wasn¹t trained. He trained me to keep an open throat in producing vowel sounds, and stopping the sound with consonants rather than closing the throat. That whole process of breathing, listening, preparing to be able to breathe while forming consonants, and yet keep the movement going, has taken me many years to try to get a handle on it. To make it intuitive, so I don¹t have to pay attention to it, describes for me a code of art¹.
