Khaled:

Many thanks for the post.

To recap my question. There has to have been some open minded ness
toward
others ( religion and race) in order for an empire to flourish like
that.

Where has that open minded ness gone?

So what happened?

Ron:
I couldn't even begin Khaled, I am not an authority.

Mostly what impressed me was at a general level,
I think pointing all the blame and fury at Islam
Is a mistake, but that fury is rightly aimed at that
Frame of mind which emerges in all religions.
Currently that frame of mind seems to dominate
The region of the middle east. It seems to have
Become quite popular for obvious reasons.
I sincerely feel it is not Islam per say
But that mind frame that has been allowed to flourish
Within it and has gained popularity because of
The strife in the region.
I would posit that if the U.S. were in similar turmoil
Civilly, that radical Christianity would take on similar
Dimensions. (McCarthy era?)
Or any belief system that unites under the banner of conflict.
Strife seems to breed conservatism to the extreme.

The countries of the middle east merge church and state. They
Value the Koran and the teachings above the individual.

The great Sultans of the past seemed to be able to balance this.
They were very tolerant of the peoples they conquered and their ways
Thus they flourished.
