SA,
I wouldn't say coal was a biological pattern either. Coal is a
sedimentary rock.
Coal is a readily combustible black or brownish-black rock. It is a
sedimentary rock, but the harder forms, such as anthracite coal, can be
regarded as metamorphic rocks because of later exposure to elevated
temperature and pressure. It is composed primarily of carbon along with
assorted other elements, including sulfur.
Lithification is the process in which sediments compact under pressure,
expel connate fluids, and gradually become solid rock. Essentially,
lithification is a process of porosity destruction through compaction
and cementation. Lithification includes all the processes which convert
unconsolidated sediments into sedimentary rocks. Petrification, though
often used as a synonym, is more specifically used to describe the
{replacement of organic material by minerals} in the formation of
fossils.
Fossils are the mineralized or otherwise preserved remains or traces
(such as footprints) of animals, plants, and other organisms.
A mineral is a naturally occurring substance formed through geological
processes that has a characteristic chemical composition, a highly
ordered atomic structure and specific physical properties. A rock, by
comparison, is an aggregate of minerals and need not have a specific
chemical composition. Minerals range in composition from pure elements
and simple salts to very complex silicates with thousands of known
forms.
To conclude that coal is biological by virtue of what it once was would
be making The same deduction as stating that it is social wouldn't it?
Or am I missing it.

Ron:
> biological rocks that are inorganic patterns,
> These dinosaurs most likely lived in social groups
> does that mean coal
> might be considered social, biological, rocks?
SA: Do you understand why what are called organic
rocks would be considered inorganic patterns? The
same would go for social dinosaurs. You wouldn't say
coal is a social pattern, would you?
