It's like following a cooking recipe.
When I try to follow a recipe, line by line. i find myself going over it
a dozen times or so during the cooking process to make sure i missed
nothing. If an ingredient is not available, I am stuck.
On the other hand, if I read the recipe, understand it, then I can put it
away, and be free to follow it, be creative improvise if needed, and
improve on it.
We get hang up on measurements, and that's what kills it.

I Think both the American and the Islamic fundamentalists movements are a
reaction to an identity crisis.

The American one, has mixed nationalism and religion and is trying to
create itself as the new master race. Not by genealogy but by ideology.
The Islamic fundamentalists movement is mourning the empire that once was
and is trying to stop the march of westernization. Most noticeably in the
march of western language.
