[Ian]
Interesting little essay, prompted by my comment ?
See you've picked-up on Zizek too. More for my reading list.

[Krimel]
Thing on my reading list are likely to accompany me to the grave. On the
other hand I found four Zizik videos. I am not sold but I do appreciate
David M's recommendation.

[Ian]
Your inlcusion of the word "merely" in your definition of "assumption"
makes my pejorative point.

[Krimel]
The assumption, that a world where human beings are plugged into a giant
machine intelligence that feeds them experience and extracts electricity
from their bodies, is a 'merely' kind of assumption. The assumption that
thinking assures my existence or that nature has order and we can find it is
a whole different kind of assumption.

[Ian]
The level of "commitment" idea is consistent with the "value" aspect
of err, hmm, .... truth.

[Krimel]
It is the difference between the 'merely' and the metaphysical.

[Ian]
"Triumph" (!) .... not my kinda word ... you said it, part of the
problem. Progress is what is to be valued - winning is evidence of a
process, not an "objective".

[Krimel]
Perhaps triumph is a strong word but see how much success you have
convincing people to adopt the old view. Winning in this case is evidence of
the explanatory power and flexibility of this meme.
