> [Krimel] > Science and religion ask for a different kind of commitment.
not always, and sometimes round the wrong way, some religious thinkers are all for doubt, questioning and rethinking assumptions as you know, but not enough of such people. [Krimel] I attended a conference recently where the speaker was describing the work of a number of theologians who are attempting to reconcile Christianity with Darwin. After a while my eyes started to glaze over and I was just like, "What's the point?" I think Dawkins is dead on when he says that Darwin directly threatens the People of the Book. The deist god that just sets the world in motion and sits and watches is impotent. A Christian god that neither sets the world in motion nor tinkers with it is useless. Obviously there are those who have a vested interest in preserving the vocabulary and the structure of certain institutions and traditions. I am sympathetic to that. But it seems to me that it would be more productive to just be honest and upfront about it.
