not always, and sometimes round the wrong way,
some religious thinkers are all for doubt, questioning and
rethinking assumptions as you know, but not enough
of such people.

I attended a conference recently where the speaker was describing the work
of a number of theologians who are attempting to reconcile Christianity with
Darwin. After a while my eyes started to glaze over and I was just like,
"What's the point?" I think Dawkins is dead on when he says that Darwin
directly threatens the People of the Book. The deist god that just sets the
world in motion and sits and watches is impotent. A Christian god that
neither sets the world in motion nor tinkers with it is useless.

Obviously there are those who have a vested interest in preserving the
vocabulary and the structure of certain institutions and traditions. I am
sympathetic to that. But it seems to me that it would be more productive to
just be honest and upfront about it.
