Don't you wish. You can run but you can't hide from Pirsig's words: "Neither is there a quarrel between the Metaphysics of Quality and the "teleological" theories which insist that life has some purpose." You may quarrel until the cows come home, but it won't change one wit what Pirsig said.

[Arlo]
Unlike you, I don't pretend or ignore Pirsig when I disagree with him. What you still have not answered, is "which" teleological "purposes" are correct? All of them? Doesn't this make "purpose" completely relative?

As for running from Pirsig's words, if you read Pirsig and feel that he is proposing a Quality with a conscious volition and intent, a Quality which formulates plans and enacts them, a Quality that orders and controls the cosmos to its will, a Quality that ordered the cosmos to produce "you", and sends cyclones against the Burmese people as part of its "plan", then all you've done is turn Pirsig's Quality into "Quali-god". Good luck with that.
