[Krimel]
I think the key here is "... life has some purpose." I would say that life
does have a purpose. Its purpose is the continue living, to grow and
reproduce itself. I would agree that living things act on this purpose. But that does not mean the inorganic level is purposeful. It does not mean that
the invisible hand that underlies the purposeful activities of individuals
is in harmony with each individual. It does not imply a grand scheme or an
Omega Point or anything of that sort.

DM: I tend to think of the future as open, that there are terrible possibilities,
so-so ones, and great one available to us to reach towards. We make our
choices and head off towards them, we make bad turns, and all the other
patterns from inorganic to animal make their choices, in so far as they can,
towards the possibilities best suiting them in so far as they experience
the possibilities that are available. Clearly, all this seeking is not entirely
co-ordinated or so messed up that we only get chaos. But given how
dangerous the cosmos is,it is very close to such chaos. The climb up
to the human level of patterns and orders is a struggle of some achievement.
