[Platt] >From an evolutionary point of view, those who don't survive are inferior to those who do.
[Arlo] If that's the MOQ's view, I am not buying it. I've known a few who "did not survive" and they were among the best people I've ever known. [Platt] No,. "like" is analogy -- not "that stand for." The latter is simply a phrase made up of symbols strung together to form meaning (in the English language.). [Arlo] I'm not gonna nitpick with you. Analogy most certainly is "something that stands for something else". "It's raining" is an analogy for the experience, one that is wrapped up in a lot of other metaphorical associations like happiness or sadness or calmness or whatever... [Platt] All language is not metaphor. Much of it is literal. Ex: "It's raining." [Arlo] We may think of "rain" differently. Its a metaphor. In many ways solidified, but a metaphor nonetheless.
