Hello Squonk,

Thinking about this last night, as I was waiting
for my physical therapist, I remembered something that
the mystics of India called large mind. The concept
involved is that you develop the freedom to switch
between perceptions of experience, balance them and
master them to a degree. What this boils down to in
regard to the thought experiment is I think by
pursing DQ in the manner you proposed is giving up
a certain amount of personal freedom and I feel
that is counterintuitive to the aim of the project.
that's about my only qualm with it, that and it seems
it would, in reality be a long way round a problem
that can be solved a lot more economically.

Free agency seems to be the larger issue.

To be like an infant is a metaphor for being open
to change and acceptance. It is an approach to experience
not so much a perfect state of existence. The goal
of the mystic is to reach a developed sense of being
to be able to be mired in static patterns and only
see the dynamic quality of them. The aim is not to
avoid or shut out the static, forever will you chase
that concept, it is fueled by desire to know, which
is unquenchable. The enlightened mind sees that
even the most static pattern is all dynamic.

it's the journey that develops the comprehension,
I personally would rather comprehend than merely
be, I think this is one of the defining characteristics
which distinguishes humans from animals. Take away
the ability to comprehend and you take away that
which makes us human.
