Most apt. As said to Krimel, Pirsig's obsession was the Quality=
Reality issue, and he may at times have some strange utterings
regarding the levels. Lila Blewitt's personal health or social
standing has little to do with the 2nd.and 3rd. levels.

IMO the levels are Quality levels (like ocean waves are ocean
water too) so in that sense DQ pervades the levels, but it is their
STATIC quality that counts.

About DQ I don't know, but the intellectual level may exist and yet
some people be totally indifferent to it. There exists whole cultures
this day that don't VALUE the intellectual reality, but are as
intelligent as anyone. Lila B. may have been as "sharp as a razor"
yet not understanding a single thing about the "captain's"
intellectual observations.

Agree, Lila was completely lodged in the social reality, emotions
her primary expression. Pirsig is a little un-MOQish here,
somewhere else he postulates "celebrity" as a social value, and
Lila B. may have been an avid reader of glamour magazines and
as such "social conscious", but he own standing is irrelevant.

The Phaedrus meets Reet part I'll have to study a bit more.
