Ron: Sorry, I don't follow you. How does the s/o distinction subvert social excellence? How do you define "social excellence?" Then I'm mystified how s/o intellect and hippies are in any way related. They revelled in blowing their s/o minds. Incidentally, I thoroughly enjoyed your post comparing you, Bo and Pirsig on the question of the intellectual level. I'll probably have some comments later. In the meantime, Bo is Bodvar, not Bodivar. And, I had trouble sometimes figuring out who was saying what because not all the passages were identified.
