OK - so that being said - now let me throw this tidbit in...
I have recently been blessed/fortunate to be able to do something
extraordinary.
I have just recently completed (unless I add to it later)
hand-painting a 1965 Porsche 356 C Coupe - in my own psychedelic,
abstract-expressionist style.
I have it on the road this week and I will be in PA
and Ohio showing the car at two events - the 356 Registry in Lancaster, PA
tomorrow (Sat.) and next weekend in Canton Ohio at the Glenmoor Gathering of
Significant Automobiles (where I'm also an invited artist with my Porsche
Junkyard Series (photography) -
So - the car can be seen at: www.margaretwarren.us (look under the art car
link) the rest of the site (as usual is being redone so the other galleries
are sparse at the moment - my work is on Flickr or other places though.
I have been working on it now for just about 1 year and over 200 hours. It's
the 40 year anniversary since 1968 (including ZMM)...mostly, I listened to a
lot of different music while painting the car and as much as I possibly
could - turned OFF the 'mind chatter'...
the music revolved mostly around jazz music recorded
during 1965 - 1968 (Miles Davis/Monk/Coltrane...which was also a significant
time in jazz history...specifically 'Live at the Plugged Nickel'.

Shorter's biography. In 1965 (prior to Miles recording the album 'Bitches
Brew') - Miles group was to perform
at the Plugged Nickel in Chicago. ALL of the performers during the two
nights of performances had agreed that during the two gigs, they would play
ANYTHING but what was 'expected' of them when it was their turn to play or
solo over chord changes. As much as possible - their goal was to be truly
dynamic during those gigs.
I also listened to a lot of Hendrix - I'm a big Hendrix fan...so I included
lots of visual references all over the car to places and ideas in many
of his album song lyrics. There are a lot of personal symbols in it, but I
specifically left out common symbols...yin/yang, peace sign, etc.
There is also a famous Janis Joplin psychedelic Porsche (also 1965) (painted
by her roadie and friend, Dave Richards in 1968)...so I also of course,
listened to Janis and a bunch of other 1968 music.
I will continue to put better pictures of the car up as I take them - but
I've been working incredibly hard to get all of this together for the road
trip - the car runs great and we almost would have driven it up from FL -
but we had to bring lots of other stuff for the shows - so we have trailered
it this time, but we do have plans to drive it out west later on in the year
perhaps.
