Andre,
I think what was significant in what Platt posted below is not the
"dreaming"
aspect. Dream all you want. It's the "coercion" part that we need to
be concerned about. That's what's dangerous about any New World Order, Star
Trekie,
no nation-state or tribes world. We haven't even been able to sit down as a
community,
as a country, in our schools, and between nations and discuss morality and
values. So
if we can't talk about them and even whole-heartedly consider them in our
actions, then it's
same old SOM non-value, non-moral vacuum world. Nothing will really change
except the
bigger stick, more power and control.

Platt says:
Dream on, Andre."What the Metaphysics of Quality indicates is that the
twentieth-century intellectual faith in man's basic goodness as spontaneous
and natural is disastrously naive. The ideal of a harmonious society in
which everyone without coercion cooperates happily with everyone else for
the mutual good of all is a devastating fiction." (Lila, 24)
Funnily enough I expected this response from you Platt ( don't get me wrong
please ..I respect you!). And of course I had this argument of Pirsig's in
the back of my mind when I put down these words. What I like about the MoQ
is that it seeks to address current, "real" everyday issues and making sense
of them within an MoQ perspective so that we can build on this ( this is
unlike SOM thinking). In this sense it tries to be very realistic but at the
same time constructively set up the possibilities for further growth and
development. Given this interpretation I suggest that the potential of MoQ
thinking and reasoning gives ( rational) ligitimacy for this kind
of "dreaming". In other words it provides a means through which dreams may
become reality.
But of course you are right. I did not say that we are ready for this
yet.... it is a heavy responsibility to be true to yourself. I suggest
another 15 generations!
"Everybody seems to think I'm lazy, but I don't mind, I think they're crazy
running everywhere at such a speed until they find there is no need".
