Hi Mel, Thank you for taking the time to respond to my previous post. I have already reacted to the reations given. I do genuinly mean that I am learning about American attitudes and that there is a difference between 'European' interpretations of such things as freedom of speech, self reliance, democracy, socialism because of different analogues at a national level etc etc.
Exposure to things American in Holland are f.ex. C-grade TV shows called entertainment, live bowl, disasters and incursions, use of force, threat of economic sanctions ,political pressures etc etc and of course the Grammies. What we are getting is very very onesided and not a balanced picture. That's why I enjoy reading your posts...you are concerned about what is happening in your country today/ and yesterday in hope of a better tomorow. Not wanting to become too wooley, what you guys are presenting is an intelligent, human concern about things ( I didn't see that reflected but now I do.) The only live Americans I meet here are religious zealots wanting to spread the word of you know who.Scandalous!!! Anyway Mel, I could go on and on. Right now I am thankfull to be where I am...no TV, sub-tropical climate, surrounded by hills, gorgeous Chinese people whom I do not understand and cheap cold beer.
