Hi Andre,
Have you heard about Godwin's Law? reductio ad hitlerum? While it
happens here what is more common when people disagree is for one to
accuse the other of being an SOMist. I'm still not seeing what you see
as a problem. Maybe it would help me understand your point if you
explained what an SOMist is to you.
As I understand it, Pirsig pursued the ghost of rationality to the root
cause of the moral vacuousness of intellect--why it can't deal with
values and art. He posited Quality rather than subjects and objects as
primary reality. But subjects and objects while forever divided in SOM
are not thrown out in the MOQ. They are reinterpreted as value levels
and connected with one another by two other value levels. It is not
SOMist to distinguish thoughts from referents which may mean
intellectual patterns and inorganic, biological, or other intellectual
pattern of experience while these thoughts themselves are also
experience.
Best,
Steve
