Have you heard about Godwin's Law? reductio ad hitlerum? While it happens here what is more common when people disagree is for one to accuse the other of being an SOMist. I'm still not seeing what you see as a problem. Maybe it would help me understand your point if you explained what an SOMist is to you.

As I understand it, Pirsig pursued the ghost of rationality to the root cause of the moral vacuousness of intellect--why it can't deal with values and art. He posited Quality rather than subjects and objects as primary reality. But subjects and objects while forever divided in SOM are not thrown out in the MOQ. They are reinterpreted as value levels and connected with one another by two other value levels. It is not SOMist to distinguish thoughts from referents which may mean intellectual patterns and inorganic, biological, or other intellectual pattern of experience while these thoughts themselves are also experience.
