To be honest I was even toying with the idea that the MoQ is not a metaphysics at all (!) but I'd rather leave that to the experts.
Oh, go ahead and be honest! Honesty is good, even if you're not an expert. It's high quality thinking out loud. It helps you maintain personal integrity. In addition to all that, what you were toying with is true: The MoQ is one philosopher's paradigm for existential reality. It is not a metaphysics because it does not transcend the physical world of appearances.
Pirsig has created a wonderful MoQ, for me it is a 'Code of Art'. And I don't want to see it shot down.
Yes, learning to see the world as Quality is an aesthetic experience that has much in common with the study of art forms. But, as with the appreciation of any work of art, Quality relates the subject to the objects observed. It can't be realized outside the SOM paradigm.
