Arlo: So your idea of "intellect" is that it champions calling people "niggers" and "kikes"? Great. What about "retard"? Would "intellect" champion calling people with mental disabilities by that term again? But I do agree that "intellect" champions the abandonment of such politically correct double-speak as "War on Terror" or "Patriot Act" etc.
Andre: Point taken Arlo (I feel I should respond as well as I used this shift from political correctness to 'incorrectness' in the Dutch context a positive thing) and you correctly suggest the possible dangers of this. Pirsig makes no bones about how to deal with social PoV's threatening intellectual PoV's. My suggestion to name those that actively represent and act out these social PoV's (isolate them and deal with them appropriately) places me firmly in the SOM camp I suppose, but I do have in mind the MoQ interpretation of the dangers, as Bodvar pointed out, plus my observation that a relatively small group of people are on this path and they should not be permitted to be responsible for the need to introduce more repressive legislation (as some of our right-wing and centre wing politicians ask for).This is a knee-jerk reaction that, in the long run, can only lead to more repression and intolerance. They can and should be dealt with by applying existing laws...ruthlessly.
