Platt:

Me, too. Free to choose -- that's what it means to be human, to respond to
DQ. But there are many people who 1) don't want to take the responsibility
for the outcome of their bad choices, and 2) look to government to make
choices for them. Result? Tyranny. We see movement in that direction now in
the U.S.

Andre,
Couldn't agree more Platt. Sometimes it is very good to leave one's country
and culture and immerse oneself in another one as I did in China. Returning
to Holland the dominant mentality (SOM) I see everywhere. In politics,
economics, social relations, media etc , precisely all those things Phaedrus
abhorred early in ZMM. I am not impressed either. It is rather depressing.
Everything is politicised here.

You spoke of Geert Wilders the other day, the Dutch politician who is quite
outspoken in his condemnation of everything that has to do with the Koran
and Muslims ( he is the one whom the British Govt. refused entry, much to
the dismay and astonishment of many Dutch people).

Problem is that he really borders on fascism.
If elections were to be held today he would have the greatest political
party ever (in the history of Dutch politics)!!

But what does he want? A government based on Christian principles (he is
Roman Catholic).

Now, I don't know about you Platt, this may be against your own personal
flavour, but this is horrific. By condemming the Koran he wants to
re-institute the Bible. He wants to re-establish the authority of the Church
(mindless traditions and rituals) thereby devouring intellectual patterns of
value. Back to the Dark Ages I reckon (in MoQ terms).

Frightening!

I miss China. Not that it is any better there intellectually, but it was
more pleasant socially. And more people smiling at you.

Regards
Andre
