lovely analogy wb, thanks for the kind words perhaps the concept of 'memes' is now more useful than genes; genes being just one type of meme.
2012 is intriguing. i have read and watched much about it and a lot of it resonates. i guess intuitively i don't believe we can keep going as we are much past 2012....natural disasters, climatic extremes, sea level rise, nuclear war, pandemics....take your pick. this is one reason why it seems to fit: the timing seems right. i am fortunate to have people in my life who are basically bodhisattvas, one especially. i have seen how she maintains a positive outlook, and how she focuses on how she can help others, and over the years i have seen many people be helped just by her loving, fun presence. there is no moralism or cant in her, and neither is she a martyr - quite the opposite. she reminds me a bit of henry miller, my guru, in that she doesn't recede from the world to gain spiritual calm - she plunges fully into it. karl shapiro called henry miller 'gandhi with a penis' - i like that. anyway i guess what i am driving at (yes gav, what are you driving at?) is perhaps HOW this putative change is occurring, now. what is very interesting is that my friend lives with 7 other girls in a warehouse in melbourne...they are a very happy interdependent family....ahhh interdependence!!!! that may be it. to be dependent is to be a child; to be independent is to be an autistic adult, ie one that is to some degree cut off from others. to be interdependent is to be a human being - to realise that optimal care, for self and world, is found through a sharing of resources, ideas etc with other similar folk. it is an exponential increase in power - parallel rather than series config - a la pirsig. interesting about the girl thing too...i am seeing the female rise up as i have talked about for years - it is actually happening (and just to make sure i don't get all egofluffy my girlfriend is now leaving me for melbourne - that same warehouse! to join in the female fun). go the girls! even if it means a bit of heartache - in fact definitely if it means heartache! all the better! wow what an evolution. and if terence is on the mark we are just starting...the ride gets crazier - faster and faster - from here on. so what does that mean for the guys i wonder? probably the same thing. we need a bit of more feminine energy within ourselves i suppose - the whole nurture, care, strength thing. a good place to start is the garden i reckon. anyway all the best wb, enjoying your posts Aloha g, I loved your post. I find that evolution is much easier to understand through the concept of attraction. In previous posts I have likened the evolutionary tree to the delta of a river as it approaches the ocean. The attracting force is gravity, and natural selection is the terrain. The gene pool is the river as it subdivides due to the pressures of the terrain. Sometimes these branches dead-end, others keep branching. The actual shaping force of the "outside" environment is intimately creating new species, as the overall driving force pulls them. This does not only happen through genetic sequence selection on a generational basis, but also happens within generations where the experiences of an organism causes it to change and these changes are actually passed along to the offspring. The area of genetics studying this is termed epigenetics. So through epigenetics (by such methods as DNA methylation), "learned" behavior is passed along as phenotypic expression and is not related to DNA sequence. The reason I bring this up is that evolutionary control is occurring at every moment. That is through the force of natural selection (some call this God, but not me). In terms of the concept of 2012, I enjoy all the different interpretations of this prophesy. Is it perhaps the internet that will enable this fusion and ultimate expression of the group consciousness? Is the change to be sudden or slow? McKenna's adventures, with his brother, in lateral symbol manipulation and resulting conclusions is one possible interpretation. McKenna was able to think somewhat laterally since he disinhibited serotonin produced logical thinking through specific chemical analogue introduction. He was, however, privy to wide conceptual tools, that had evolved through wide group interaction, and was able to group these in different ways through chemically induced thought hallucinations. However, this does not make his interpretation any more valid than say Kafka's or Buddhas The Hindu concept of large time cycles. The strength of the 2012 concept lies in the math. If indeed math is behind our thought progression, in a Kaballah way, there is reason to think that it is predictable. Intuitively we may already know what the result is, and can express it in sociologic terms.
