[Micah] That makes sense, quit bitching about a system and fix it. [Arlo] Does to me.
[Micah] What about Edsel, or anything else that is as clearly outdated as the American Public School system? [Arlo] When have I bitched about Edsel? If you think the schools are broken, Micah, I encourage you to get involved; volunteer, teach a class, teach literacy, coach a team, chaperon trips, anything. That's what I am doing. [Micah] Platt is arguing that the school system is no longer functional and a new system should be tried. [Arlo] Platt's solution is privatization and allowing schools to become market commodities. I think that's regressive and dangerous. That new things need to be tried (here), who doubts? [Micah] As with our political system and voting, you apparently can't recognize system failure and many, like Platt and others, would rather not be a part of a failed system... [Arlo] Since I work very closely with educational reform initiatives in two states, I'm not not exactly sure if your assertion holds water. I think we have failed on many fronts, but I think its simpleminded and wrong to blame "public". Indeed, if you took the time to reread the numerous posts I made on education in this forum over the years, you'd see I am highly critical of a number of things (not the least being a schizophrenic non-understanding of "why" we educate). I am also not sure as to your first little jab... is that just another "evil liberal" dig?
