KO,

I was just wondering. I suppose there is the matter of degree. What little I've seen of the Dalai Lama, he seems to be enthusiastic. I'm thinking about these things. I have heard it stated that a Buddhist trend in the U.S. is to practice Buddhism, but to deny being a Buddhist, or an association with the religion. I have done this myself, while practicing mindfulness, reading extensively about emptiness and Buddhist philosophy. 'Philosophy' seems an acceptable word, religion does not. What gets labeled (maybe) as Eastern Mysticism seems to be a mystery only when you are not pragmatically and experientially practicing meditation which gives vital information about the nature of 'thoughts'.

Just curious, and thank you for responding.

Hi Marsha,

i wondered if you might respond that word animated. I realise there is no
reason that Buddhists should not be animated - ideally they should always be
- except when they are asleep of course.
But a lot of meditators i have know - not necessarily Buddhists - were
somber and slower moving creatures.
Sue Blackmore was full of enthusiasm and very clear headed, but also i think
she says she is not a Buddhist.
