Instead of regurgitating 'NeuroScience Today', you might try
meditation. I'm no advanced student, but I did get far enough to
watch patterns cycle through the mind. That would be empirical
evidence, rather than second-hand stuff.

I have never heard of 'NeuroScience Today' but it sound more appetizing that
regurgitated Sanskrit and certainly less repellent than the notion of
enlightenment through introspection. The later just smacks of blasphemy and
self adulation.
Marsha:
The trick is NOT to get caught in your own stories. You are
interested in how the brain works, watch how thoughts flow through
the mind. My thoughts (you won't be surprised) were mostly
gibberish, but to watch the process was really amazing.
Marsha:
And really it is quite amazing to see the thinking process first-hand,
get an amazing peek at what is being called 'reality'.
[Krimel]
I know of no other way to apprehend the thinking process than first hand.
Yes, but you are not only thinking the thoughts, you are watching the
thoughts like watching Rocky and Bullwinkle.
Marsha:
Laziness is easier by far, especially when you laugh it away with humor,
but you are really missing something amazing.

Except that I am not kidding. The modern narrative arts are guided
meditations that transform the viewer. They call for a total loss of self,
absorption in the moment. They invite transcendence of the world of shadow
and provide a glimpse into the Essence of what might be.
What are you talking about??? It's not a 'total loss of self'. It's
self put in its proper perspective. It certainly doesn't make you
any less feisty. It's more laughter, less grumpiness. At least
mostly it's been that for me. It also inspires compassion. I am not
a Buddhist, or a close-to enlightened being, I'm a bug, but
meditation can be worth the effort.
