I got rid of my tv (sold it to a teacher, Arlo) in 1983 because I read 1984
in 1983 and it quite frankly freaked me out.  I think Orwell was
extrapolating social tendencies already in play at the time and pointing to
a future that must be avoided with effort.

So I became... a Waiter.
