In Lila Pirsig refers to himself as a liberal intellectual. I think that's true
enough. In fact, he sees the election of Obama as a triumph of intellectual
over social values.
Platt replied:
Without a reference I doubt if Pirsig "sees" that. If he did, he's
contradicting what he said in Lila about the intellectual pattern that
dominates society having a "defect in it," namely, no provision for morals.
Seeing the fascist trend of the Obozo administration...
dmb says:For some reason I think you'd find a way to dismiss it even if I
provided a reference. In fact, I think there is already enough material in the
books. But (sigh) here it is anyway. As you can see, Pirsig does NOT think
Obama is a clown or a fascist.
Pirsig to McWatt January 7th 2008:
"The surprise victory of Barak Obama in Iowa is a major social
evolutionary step for this country. I am reading interviews of black people
who just can’t believe it has happened, particularly in Iowa, which only 2%
black. The evil generated by slavery isn’t completely over, but, I think the
MOQ would say it is a major victory of the intellectual level over the social
level that has been centuries in coming."
