Maybe so, but Pirsig makes it clear from an MOQ viewpoint that the 
defect is "no provision for morals." In other words, SOM has no 
philosophical foundation for determining good from bad, right from 
wrong. As Pirsig explains, "To answer him you have to go all the way 
back to fundamental meanings of what is meant by morality and in this 
culture there aren't any fundamental meanings of morality. There are 
only old traditional social and religious meanings and these don't have 
any real intellectual base. They're just traditions." (Lila, 7) 

Science has built public trust on openness and honesty. But now we see 
science being compromised by fabrication, falsification and modification 
of data for the sake of a political agenda.

No. The issue is not the honesty of government. The issue is the 
honesty of SOM science.
