Andre, It seems to me that each individual is attached to a conservative-pattern that is unique to their history. Not all conservative-patterns are this or that, or cry this or that. It might be so the MD Discuss doesn't collapse to the left, Platt offers a counterbalance to the right. Does conservatism or liberalism mean any more than freedom? Marsha

Freedom and order are contradictory but both are necessary at the same time." Andre: Correct Marsha, and this must be seen in a MoQ context (i.e DQ/SQ) it's just that the (SOM) conservatives (also the ones on this Discuss) appear to condemn any form of 'liberalism' (or any alternative to 'conservatism') as commie, lefty etc etc brabble and conspiracy. And the conservative catch cry remains: In the name of Freedom. But as Pirsig points out 'Freedom' doesn't mean anything'. (LILA,p 224). In this sense is Arlo spot on; the conservative's cry is only one part of the equation. Marsha: But I was more interested in what seemed not just an objectification of the MoQ in your statement, but a personification of the MoQ. Your use of the phrase, "the MoQ is not impressed" just hit me as a very odd statement. Andre: Yes it is odd when you think about it. And the more I reflect on it the more it gives credibility to Bodvar's (and Pirsig's) statement that we live in a metaphysics or, at least, cannot escape living in one.Hence, perhaps, the 'personal' identification with the MoQ. Thank you for highlighting this for me.
