Hello Mary I was not around when you were here last, but welcome back anyway. If you really want to read some news, here is a site. I personally peek at it just for the headlines, I can go into details reading the stories. Neither my mind or heart could tolerate it. www.informationclearinghouse.info and a few other sites http://www.counterpunch.org/ http://www.yesmagazine.org/ You are absolutely right in how we should approach the other person's point of view. [Mary] Do you know how true agreement is achieved? It is my belief that the fundamental requirement is an ability to understand the other side. When your opposition says something seemingly illogical to you, instead of crowing about it and attempting to humiliate them, your job should be to try to understand where they are coming from. This serves two purposes. On one hand, you may actually gain an understanding of their position that you did not have before, and this might cause you to alter your own, and on the other hand, by forcing them to explain themselves, they will be forced to delve deeply into their beliefs, and may change their view once they have gone through the exercise of examining it. In either case, and I don't care which, something better will always come of it. [Khaled] Unfortunate most people will repeat the Talk Radio mantra. Part of the reason is that they have been told that thinking for themselves is a bad thing. In a country of 300 million, if the expression one in a million holds true, we should have 300 outstanding thinkers to look forward to. How many can you name. You mentioned the idea of 'I believe", well mine is name the 300. http://www.yesmagazine.org/issues/stand-up-to-corporate-power/1909 here is a link to a project Robert Shetterly is doing, it's about Americans who tell the truth. Some of these pro traits are people who have passed away, some are still living. Lets start a list, a list of the 300 Patriots, who tell it like it is. here is my 5 Ralph nader, Howard zinn, Noam chomsky Bill moyers and Helen Thomas. http://www.americanswhotellthetruth.org/pgs/portrait_thumbs.html who are your 5 ( living) and we get a coalition of them and send them to Washington to fix our problem? something to think about Khaled ____________________________________________________________ Diet Help Cheap Diet Help Tips.
