Exactly Marsha. We do have many level-crossing-patterns - in fact my point is that few patterns are entirely confined to one level, except for practical simplicity of being able to talk about them - utility as Matt would say.
(In another context I might call them strange loops, but whatever we call them, they exist and they evolve.)
