The Mujahadeen were not Taliban. The of fighters that drove off the
soviets, including all the foreign fighters like Bin laden and company,
did not start off as the religious nut jobs they are now.

If I am correct, the taliban did not come about until after the soviets
left. In fact one of the opposition leaders, Shah Massoud was
assassinated 2 days before the 2001 September attacks.

The taliban were a political movement, under the guise of religion, that
came about for political power grab.
