David,

Ok, just imagine for a minute this forum was dedicated to the overlooked
philosophy of Josiah Royce, and I came to the table having discovered the
(also overlooked) writings of RMP, and having set my enthusiasm for Bob on
the table was constantly countered with wiki definitions of Quality and
disparagments of Pirsig's MoQ based upon second-hand cliff note versions.

As Pirsig pointed out, "Quality" in his writings meant more than is
commonly understood by philosophologists and wiki writers. You have to
study the whole before you pick apart particulars. But the only way to
entice a study of the whole, is by presenting the particulars.

Which is frustrating and after a while, a guy asks himself, "why bother".

Which is what I asked myself some time back and the answer that came back to
me was "don't".

Unless I'm responding to a direct question, why bother annoying people with
my passions?

But then, it would sort of apply to the whole MoQ in the society at large,
eh? Nobody outside this forum gives a fig for the MoQ. Pirsig's just
another author in a world full of 'em, and reading books is boring. There's
something good on tv tonight.

The only reason I brought Royce up David, was to illustrate a point I was
trying to make that being so closed off to reading Royce, Jame's lifetime
friend and sparring partner, sorta revealed something about you. That's
the advantage of intersubjective dialogue, to get differing perspectives on
the self. But once again, seeing the reaction I get, I ask myself again,
"why bother?" But this time, since it concerns you directly, I'm asking the
wrong person when I ask myself. I should be asking you.
