[Craig] Ostensive definitions are notoriously ambiguous. When you point & say "rose", am I to take it as a sample of a rose, a plant, a petal, red, a shape, a living thing, something that needs water, something pretty, ad infinitum. [Krimel] When I point to "this" or "that" I am indicating that thing in the context of here and now. When I point and say "rose" I am not indicating this thing, I am indicating a category of things of which "this" is a member.
