I agree. I also agree that academicians for the most part, care far more over some weird little esoteric branch of knowledge they are passionate about than they do about money. They have to pay attention to the money because that's the kind of world we live in, not because they're greedy. One thing I've wondered about is the idea of the university being a self-contained universe, of sorts. Sort of like an old time monastery where knowledge is put to actual use in designing self-sufficient communities and the time pressures are taken away. Students and philosophers could be assured of a place of study and work for life, without having to rush things so. I think that would be a higher quality education system.
