[Arlo] Some clarifications, since you've added a few new mistakes. [Mark] There is a degree of incongruence in your presentation of "negotiated meaning" and search for "truth". The two are opposing.
[Arlo] Only if you are seeing from an SOM perspective. [Mark] Many people consider Pirsig's writings to be inane, so I am in good company. [Arlo] Got a touch of megalomania there, Mark. I said you seem to be playing an inane game, not reading what I write and responding with pretty ridiculous "summarizations". That you equate this with me considering Pirsig's ideas to be inane, well, I think that's brilliant evidence of my point. [Mark] I do not share the same distaste for the biological level as you do. [Arlo] And here. More evidence. I do not have "distaste" for the biological level. But "man" is not merely the parts of his biological body. Just as the biological body is not an "inorganic pattern" because it is built upon carbon atoms. [Mark] You are correct about my notion of Quality existing before the first subatomic particle. [Arlo] Dynamic Quality, yes. I believe Pirsig says that the DQ of LILA is the Q of ZMM. But you've changed your own words here, Mark, your claim was that the LEVELS existed before the first subatomic particle. That's absurd. Do you think intellectual patterns existed before the first subatomic particle, or just the empty level waiting for patterns to fill it? You are no longer talking about an evolutionary hierarchy, but an existential one. [Mark] In my opinion, my ideas are completely consistent with Pirsig's. [Arlo] I have no doubt you believe this. And that's a big part of the problem. Considering something for "40 years" may have made you a genius in your own mind, but it hasn't stopped you from completely misunderstanding Pirsig.
