For the Zuni brujo, it was the realization that his culture didn't have to hang people by their thumbs, or whatever, because the example of another culture existing side by side with his own demonstrated less cruel ways of enforcing social conformity. And perhaps it is the same way with us and our struggles against the dominant SOM paradigm, that we don't overthrow it by arguing against it so much as we do by demonstrating a different pattern in our lives.
