Hi dmb, > dmb said to Matt: > > So, basically, you just resent the idea that I could "teach" you anything. > You feel humiliated by the suggestion that somebody might understand > something you don't. Steve: No, that's really not it at all. Look at it this way: The real motorcycle you're working on is _yourself_. You see??? YOURSELF! And you really need to pay attention to the next sentence because it is VERY important that you get this: Pirsig _inverted_ (that's right INVERTED!) the picture of reality where subjects and objects come first and Quality is somehow supposed to fit neatly into one off those two boxes. Understand? I mean, what is good and what is not good? Need we ask anyone to tell us these things? Yet for some mysterious reason you keep on telling us again and again--You know?--as though we didn't already know that and were missing something really basic after 10+ years in this forum. But what in the hell could that be? You see the problem? Was it just a rhetorical move where you were actually performing for some other audience than the one you were tacitly addressing (perhaps posterity in a vision of future philosophers mining the moq archives for intellectual gold) rather than the person you were explicitly addressing? Or did you really think the people in this forum are so clueless on such basic shit? I really don't care, but you should realize that this isn't about Matt feeling threatened by your brilliance. (Come on, how could _that_ be it?) It is a suggestion for what you might try if you didn't want to come off like such a dick. Get it? I mean, can you not see how all the extraneous "see?"-type BS can get annoying? It's simple. Quality comes first which produces ideas including the idea that ideas come first! But why are you saying that as though we didn't already know it?
