Steve:
I deleted them because we are both familiar with the relevant passage
and because if we keep everything the lengths of post will grow
exponentially.

Steve:
What is directly contradicted in the text is that Pirsig seems to see
things differently. I have made it clear that I see myself as
disagreeing with Pirsig on that point. If Dynamic Quality is primary
experience and if experience is reality, then it makes no sense to me
to think of DQ as something that we can be any more or less in touch
with. The glasses have to do with how we interpret DQ and not whether
or not we experience DQ in the first place especially since DQ
precedes such concepts as "the interpreter of experience." Rather than
make any argument in defense of the notion that we can be closer to or
further from DQ, you simply quote Pirsig expressing his support for
the idea. Since this isn't a democracy or a popularity contest but
rather a philosophical discussion, whether or not you or Pirsig thinks
so is irrelevant to whether or not there is good reason to think so.
What I keep asking you for is the reasoning, and it seems that you are
either unwilling or unable to give it.

Steve:
Why do you assume that I must be disagreeing with you when I make this
claim about my doubts? The fact is that I don't know what you think
about Enlightenment and would be interested to know. What do you think
it is?

Best,
Steve
