Horse and all MOQers: I don't know how closely you've been following this thread but I think it practically makes a case, all by itself, that Marsha is trashing this place. She's not the only one, of course, but she is the "star" of this thread. Off-line correspondence between Glover and Harding was posted in this forum and now it's about off-line correspondence between myself and John. In both cases, the off-line communication was about the quality of moq_discuss, with various complaints being leveled against various kinds of pollution. Marsha's reaction more or less proves that the complaints about her have real merit.
She issued insulting and outlandishly hypocritical complaints about trading in mere gossip and then proceeded to drudge up more gossip. She righteously promised never to do it again but then reminded everyone that this private correspondence could be found in the archives, which is just a cowardly and lazy way to break that promise, or at least the spirit of it. She denied that there was any spite or hate in her betrayal and then, moments later, explained that she did it because she was so angry that she felt ill. And that's just from the most recent posts today! I don't think it takes a big, hairy snob to say that just isn't good enough. That level of vitriol and incoherence (or hypocrisy) is not acceptable. As Dan said in that private letter, it's gotten to the point where I'm ashamed to be associated with the place. It's embarrassing. Don't get me wrong. I like a good zinger as much as the next guy and wouldn't even want it to be all sweetness. And I'm not saying participants need some kind of formal education or that they be brilliant somehow. But the place really needs a tougher doorman. She simply isn't interested in doing what this place was built to do; discuss the MOQ. The pattern is to insult the critic and evade the criticism. It's been going on for years and still refuses to engage in any discussion of substance. Why should this be allowed? I really don't why anyone would want to defend her presence here. As an example of how not to do it? I think Pirsig deserves excellence and ideally one of the best philosophy forums on the internet but the vast majority of postings aren't even remotely respectable. It breaks my heart to think what that must do to Pirsig's reputation. This is not meant as a criticism of Horse, except that it does suggest he might be too nice. > From: [email protected] > Date: Mon, 17 Sep 2012 14:41:11 -0400 > To: [email protected] > Subject: Re: [MD] What's up? > > > dmb, > > You also neglected to include the nasty, insulting, degrading comment you > wrote to John.
