I'd say the same to you as I say to my kids. Swearing doesn't bother me,
it's bad manners I don't like!
If you think it's OK to be ill-mannered then that says a lot about you
and given the way you proceeded before DMB started having a go at you I
think it's pointless (and very shallow) to complain when someone else
retaliates in the same way.
What's your take on good manners? Do you have a position? If someone
walked up to you in a bar and said to your wife or kids the sort of
things you've said to others on this list what would be your reaction?
The whole point about having good manners is that you are the better
person for having good manners.
I dunno, maybe it's an old-fashioned British thing (like me!) but I
would agree with whoever said "Manners maketh the man"!
Also, David implies below that he has been authorized to speak for Robert
Pirsig. Pirsig has endorsed your forum as a place to discuss his ideas. Does
he endorse this kind of expression of them?
No idea. I know I don't speak for him - I only speak for myself!
I would disagree with your perception that I have been "trying to provoke a
fight." I think there is a difference between provoking fight and refusing
to be a doormat.
And sometimes a very fine line, the crossing of which should, where
possible, be avoided.
Anyway, I am sorry to make such poor use of your time but delighted to hear
you are keeping busy.
