When confronted with offering anything new, isn't it necessary to start
with what's known? That's what I meant by 'writing down to the reader.' It
isn't meant as a disparagement as you seem to suggest.

Am I prioritizing? Of course. That's pretty much what we all do. That's
what I meant by reaching up to the author. We as readers either reach up to
the level of the text (prioritize) or we remain with the known.

We have the advantage of accessing subsequent writings by Robert Pirsig
where he attempts to clarify some of his ideas. What I decide is
significant has no relevance here. Rather, what the MOQ deems significant
is of value.
