I have read the entire essay at this point and it is my impression that
The author is not very well read on
The topic of philosophy in general.
Also, he seems to be addressing
Those interpreters of Pirsig who
Do fit the description of "new age mysticism " and that's where the
The arguement begins to get fragmented and it's unclear what point Edwards is 
trying to make
Besides defending scientific materialism.
